The Most Profitable Way to Learn Copywriting

A lot of copywriting books are very similar.
And that’s fine.
As long as they’re rooted in the direct response fundamentals, you’re still getting your money’s worth, because you can never learn the fundamentals enough.
But most of the time, each copywriting book has 1 or more golden nuggets that are NOT discussed in any other book.
These nuggets are unique to the copywriter and their way of thinking, their writing process, their overall strategy.
This is what I look for when reading copywriting, marketing and sales books.
But even if you are sitting on a proverbial treasure chest filled with gold bricks, you’ll never realize it if you AREN’T applying these rare tips to your writing.

How to "Force" Your Brain to Feed You Endless Ideas When Writing Copy
One of the most underrated aspects to your success is the ability to come up with big ideas.
To constantly “create” breakthrough ideas to use in your copywriting.
Truth is:
If your sales message is not tied around a big idea, you will always earn peanuts on the prairie.
Lots of disgruntled copywriters scratch their head on this.
I had a hard time cracking the bank’s vault too.
I would try really hard to tap into my creativity and force out ideas.
But, the more I tried, the harder it became.
Then, after reading Joseph Sugarman’s book, Adweek Copywriting Handbook, I realized the foolish mistake I was making.
You see, the best way to tap into creativity is NOT hard work.
It’s the exact opposite.
The key is to give your mind a BREAK.
Sugarman advised to take a break after writing the first draft.
However, I like to take a break BEFORE I write.
Here’s what I do…
I research my market intensely.
I stuff my brain with all the hard facts, data and stats on my market, product, company, etc.
Then…
I cool off.
Ideally, I won’t write for another 24 hours.
During this time, I’ll do anything but work on this assignment.
I find it best to do something fun and relaxing.
Because it’s during these moments when big ideas crystalize.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been smacked in the arse by a phat idea while taking a shower, walking my dog or lifting weights.
Why does this work so well?
Your subconscious mind needs time to take in all the info that your conscious mind has given it.
And, when you give it time to “incubate” (that’s what Sugarman called this process), it will “create” for you.
That’s the beauty of it all.
You don’t have to do ANYTHING.
Research intensely… Then take a day off.
Do something fun.
Then, when you are hit with a big idea…
WRITE IT DOWN.
Try this out the next time you write for a client.
